On Thursday, Vice President Leni Robredo disputed President Rodrigo Duterte’s claim that there’s no solid evidence that the Marcos family amassed ill-gotten wealth.

Robredo said that not only courts in the Philippines, but also other countries like Swiss Federal Supreme Court have decisions which conclude that the late strong man, Ferdinand Marcos and his family have stolen billions of dollars from public funds.

The vice president pointed out that Human Rights Victims Reparation and Recognition Act of 2013 (R.A. 10368) states that the reparation for the martial law victims will be coming from the alleged Swiss bank accounts hidden by the Marcoses, funds that were ordered to be returned.

“’Di ba pinapabayad niya sila, pinapabalik iyong perang ninakaw? In fact, mayroon nang mga victims ng Martial Law na nakatanggap na nakatanggap na ng bayad. So hindi ko alam kung saan nanggagaling iyong statement na iyon, kasi ano naman, official records iyong mga desisyon ng mga korte, na sinasabi na talagang may kasalanan, kaya nga pinapabalik iyong pera,” Robredo said in an interview with DYMD 93.7 Energy FM in Dumaguete City.

On February 27, the president said in a speech that there’s no proof that the wealth recovered by the government after Marcos’ regime ended in 1986 belonged to his family.

“What they want to say is that Marcos was a dictator, that he stole ano… Until now you have not proven anything except to sequester and sell. Hindi mo nga sigurado kung talagang kay Marcos ba ‘yan,” he said
