Manila, Philippines - the Mayor of Concepcion, Tarlac commended a hotel room boy after returning a bag containing cash worth P2.4-million, checks, and other valuables.

The said amount of money and other things were left by a hotel guest last week.

The mayor honored Arlan Sotto Sampang, 21, from barangay Alfonso in Concepcion.

“Your honesty has brought prestige, pride and honor to our town and to all of us. You are a citizen who must be emulated,” Mayor Lacson said during a special ceremony at the municipal hall, to honor the honest room boy.

Sampang works at the Sogo Hotel in Dau, Mabalacat, Pampanga, where a guest left the brown bag. He found it later on while cleaning the room the guest previously occupied.

The room boy then surrendered the bag to the hotel branch manager on duty. Two days later, the guest went back to the hotel to ask for a bag he left behind, not expecting to recover the items in it.

The guest, who turned out to be a business man (who chose not to disclose his name) was surprised upon finding his bag with the contents still intact.

The grateful guest handed over to Sampang an “early Christmas gift” as a reward for his honesty.
“Nang pagbalik ng customer, nagbakasakali lang siya na makikita pa niya ang kanyang bag, pero ibinalik namin ng walang bawas ang kanyang pera at mga mahahalagang bagay. Salamat sa katapatan ni Arlan” said the hotel manager, Mhar de Jesus.

“People of your honesty are what we need in our government. Talagang kahanga-hanga ang natural niyang ugali, hindi siya nasilaw sa halos dalawa’t kalahating milyong pera.” The mayor said.

Mayor Lacson gave Sampang a cash gift and also bestowed him the “highest commendation of the municipality for his exemplary honesty”, even offered Sampang to work for the municipal government.
