P60 M worth of prepositioned relief supplies, welcomed by DSWD from Australian government

On November 13, Monday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) expressed its gratitude to Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull when he declared the P60 million worth of prepositioned relief supplies and other funds to DSWD.

DSWD Officer-in-Charge Emmanuel A. Leyco thanked the Australian Prime Minister for his generosity.

With Australia’s assistance, the DSWD has strengthened its disaster response by implementing more efficient systems - and reaching people in need more quickly,” the OIC said.

The said prepositioned reliefs are the Australian government’s support to humanitarian crisis, which includes the conflicted city of Marawi. Australia provided tents, sleeping mats, mosquito nets, malongs, and also toys for children.

The said items can immediately support 160,000 people.

Australian government also has provided the Department with valuable assistance of setting up systems to be more effective in responses to disasters and conflict.
