Manila, Philippines - On Friday, the Office of the Vice President declared that it was ready to help in the rehabilitation of Marawi City.

During the Bicol Express Modernization Forum event in Avenue Convention Center, Naga City, Leni Robredo said that OVP and its partners are willing and ready to provide help needed by Marawi after the months of war.

Robredo also noted that her office has put presence already in Marawi.

“In terms of rehabilitation, we are quite ready,” said Robredo in Filipino. “We’re just waiting for the go-signal that we can go [there],” she said.

“Even before the fighting started, we already launched our ‘Angat Buhay sa Marawi’ in March,” she explained. “And after the war broke out, we were there several times and we even set up a command center in Cagayan de Oro for relief,” Robredo added.

According to her, OVP has already requested for a briefing assistance from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Department of National Defense (DND).

“We asked for a briefing on Monday but they are not yet available and asked if we can wait until November 6,” she said.

“It’s ideal to have a clearing house for all those who wish to help so it wouldn’t be doubled,” she said, noting that her office was in close contact with DND Secretary Delfin Lorenzana who serves as the head of Marawi rebuilding.

Just last Tuesday, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that Marawi City is now liberated and free from terrorists after months of battle.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I hereby declare Marawi City liberated from the terrorist influence that marks the beginning of rehabilitation of the city," said the President.

Currently, the government forces are also in focus to rehabilitate the city of Marawi.
