President Duterte willing to open bank records, but asks Sereno and Morales to do the same

Manila, Philippines - President Rodrigo Duterte said that he is willing to open his bank accounts to the public if Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno and Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales would also do the same.

The president said it to finally determine who is corrupt among the three of them.

The president’s challenge for the two officials was to resign with him and submit their financial documents to Congress for investigation.

“Magresign na lang kami ni Justice Sereno, eh kami yung nagpoproblema sa Pilipino. Si Ombudsman, ako raw may millions. O di mag-sign kami, dalhin naming bank book in Congress. Doon, bigyan kami ng lamesa , kami tatlo sign and we show our bank [Justice Sereno and I should resign since we are giving problems to Filipinos. Ombudsman claimed I have millions. So let’s all sign, bring our bank books to Congress. There, give us a table and we will sign and we show our bank (records)],” President Duterte said when he visited Marawi City last Tuesday.

“Pero kung magresign itong dalawa, sabay kami and I will resign as President of the Philippines. Walang problema ‘yan. Palabasin natin ang totoo. Ang gusto ko lang naman lumabas ‘yung totoo, kung sino talaga ang magnanakaw, kung sino ‘yung nagnegosyo sa gobyerno [If the two will resign, we will all do it and I will resign as president of the Philippines. There’s no problem with that. Let the truth come out. I just want the truth to prevail, to determine who is stealing, who is turning the government into a business],” he said.

The president is currently under investigated by the Office of the Ombudsman for allegedly keeping unexplained wealth. However, Mr. Duterte maintained that his wealth will not exceed P40 million including the inheritance he got from his parents.

Despite his challenge to Sereno and Morales, the president made it clear that he does not want a constitutional crisis.
