Japan announces scholarship for Filipinos through JICA

Manila, Philippines - The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has just announced its call for applicants to one of the longest-running international scholarship offered by the Japanese government to all Filipino professionals who want to study in their country.

This JDS scholarship is open for Filipinos who are engaged in framing and implementing socio-economic development plans to become future leaders in their respective career paths.

Based on its history, japans’ economic resurrection depended mostly on education and resource development.

“ The JDS is strongly committed to helping young Filipinos and scholars thrive in their professions and contribute to nation building,” JICA Chief Representative Susumu Ito said. “By helping build the capacity of Filipino professionals, JICA aims to sustain the economic growth trajectory of the Philippines in the long-term.” He added.

Through this Japanese development scholarship programs in the Philippines, Filipino scholars learn Japan’s accumulated knowledge and expertise in different fields and be able to apply their acquired knowledge when they get back to Philippines.

“The Japanese scholarship is not just about career advancement. It’s also about developing the values we need to contribute to Philippine development,” said Francis de Los Reyes, the Head of the Project Management Office of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).

De los Reyes obtained a master’s degree in Economics from the International University of Japan.
This program is open to Filipinos who are interested to pursue master’s degree in Japan to support the Philippines’ development, between 22 and 39 years old until April 1, 2018. Interested individuals may apply until November 14, 2017.

As of this date, there are more than 300 Filipinos who have received JDS scholarship.

All these years, Japan has been actively supporting the capacity building of the Filipinos in different fields not just in economic aspect.
