AFP confirms oust-Duterte plan, "we have monitored some groups planning the ouster"

Manila, Philippines- Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) through spokesperson Major General Restituto Padilla confirms claim of President Rodrigo Duterte about the ouster plan against him by armed groups.

However, Padilla said during Mindanao Hour or Bangon Marawi press briefing that he is unsure just yet whether the Liberal Party (LP) is involved in the said plan.

He also said that they have monitored some groups planning the ouster of the Chief Executive.

“’Yung pagpa-plano, meron po kaming nakikita na iba. At hindi lang naman po ‘yung oposisyon ang ano dito. Kaya ang binabantayan po talaga ng Armed Forces ay ‘yung mga armadong grupo (If we’re talking about plans, yes, we have monitored some groups planning the ouster. We’re not just talking about the opposition that’s why we’re really monitoring the armed groups),” Padilla said.

And added, “Most of them are Reds and the armed elements in Mindanao. There may be [involvement of the Yellows] but I am not privy to this information yet.”

Padilla also mentioned that AFP is monitoring the whole country’s security and not the side of the politics.

Speaking of military power, the president has previously said that he is willing to step down and replaced by the military with a new leader if accusations that he has unexplained wealth is proven to be true.

According to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, president Duterte is serious when he said it, but he believes that Mr. Duterte only made that challenge to emphasize that he has no P40 million savings.

“Maraming beses na niyang sinabi iyun (He has said that a lot of times already). We think he is serious and he means it. But it is just to emphasize that contrary to claims by his detractors - he only has no more than P40-million life savings,” Lorenzana said through a text message.
