Manila, Philippines - Last Monday, senator Risa Hontiveros called on Vitaliano Aguirre II to step down from his post as justice for alleged violation of the code of conduct of government officials.

In her privilege speech, Hontiveros presented a photograph of Aguirre during the Senate hearing last September 5, in the said photo an exchange of text messages that Aguirre was having with former Negros Oriental Rep. Jacinto “Jing” Paras was captured.

She said that the justice secretary was clearly plotting against her.

Meanwhile, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan on Tuesday morning said that the minority senators are recalling their call for Aguirre to resign.

"We are recalling the statement of the minority senators on 'Resign Aguirre' call of Sen. Hontiveros," Pangilinan said.

"There has been a misunderstanding. We apologize for the mistake," he added.

Also on Tuesday, Jing Paras countered that Hontiveros was liable for wiretapping as she presented a supposed exchange of text during a privilege speech at the Senate.
