Manila, Philippines - Early Monday morning, Puerto Princesa Vice Mayor Luis Marcaida was arrested by the authorities in a drug raid.

The operatives from the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group and local police of Puerto Princesa recovered shabu sachets and firearms.

According to PNP report, the raid happened at Marcaida’s house in Barangay Bancao-bancao, Puerto Princesa along Jacana Road at around 6 a.m.

The police apprehended 30 sachets of white crystalline substance of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu wrapped in a plastic pack.

The report also said that the drug raid operation was based on the search warrant issued by Hon. Reynaldo Alhambra, Executive Judge, City of Manila for alleged violation of Section 11 (possession of firearms), Article 2 of RA 9165, or known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Firearms- a .22 caliber rifle, three rifle grenades, a fragmentation grenade, and four .45-caliber pistols were also seized from vice mayor Marcaida.

The raid was said to have witnessed by Barangay Chairperson Marilou Gumangan of Bancao-Bancao, Barangay chairman Francisco Gabuco of San Pedro, and a media member was also present, says the police.

Marcaida was allegedly identified previously as a “high value target” by the PNP in the ongoing drug wars.

Prior to this incident, the suspected No. 1 drug lord in Iloilo city was killed during the police operation last Friday.

According to reports, Richard Prevendido was said to be the head of Prevendido Group, one of the two major drug groups in Iloilo.

Prevendido was killed even before Police Chief Jovie Espenido reached Davao after he was tasked by President Rodrigo Duterte to get to Iloilo as his next assignment.
