Manila, Philippines - According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), 49, 393 employees were regularized for almost a year of effort since 2016.

Undersecretary Dominador Say said that the mentioned figure is the updated count as of June 16, 2017, just two weeks away to mark President Rodrigo Duterte’s first year of presidency.

Earlier, DOLE identified 65, 000 employees who are under the end-of-contract or “endo” practice which refers to 5-5-5 scheme of employers - that covers renewal of contract every 5 months to avoid regularization.

On the other hand, Labor Unions stated that the number for endo-affected workers is at 1.3million with 670, 000 contractual employees hired by manpower agencies, per DOLE’s data.
